Kevin Sheehan's Commanders Game Take on the 'abysmal' Thursday Night Football loss

The Commanders were down 27-3 to Chicago and did get back into the game driving in scoring positon to make it a one-posession game with under six minutes to play in the fourth quarter. But the Bears heald on to a 40-20 win over Washington. And that means there are not too many things that made the list of things Kevin Sheehan liked from the game in his complete Commanders Game Take.

One of the things Sheehan liked from the was the nine-catch, 77-yard performance from tight end Logan Thomas who did have a touchdown and a fumble.

"He is not afraid to put his body on the line. I like Logan Thomas, I think he's gonna be important to any sort of competitive fight they've got left this season. And I thought the fumble was unfortunate... they had some momentum and he was fighting for some extra yards and it gets knocked out, can't have that happen," he said. "And I thought that one deep ball he could have caught, but we're looking for a few positives. Logan Thomas was one of the positives for me."

Wide receiver Curtis Samuel also got a shoutout as did the work of Antonio Gibson as a pass catcher. On defense, Chase Young and Montez Sweat combined for 2.0 sacks and played well. And Daron Payne stood out a couple of times. But other than that, "Everybody up front you can't take them off the hook, they were run on, the bottom line is they got blocked enough and when they weren't blocked enough or blocked well, Justin Fields made a play."

Then came the list of things Sheehan didn't like including the "abysmal" performance from the defense in the first half and "horrific tackling" all night.

Overall, on the defense: "This was, by far and away, the most disgusting effort by the defense all season long." And on the offense, "Facing one of the worst defenses in the league, a defense that was hobbling into this game missing key pieces, and they could only generate three points and three first downs and basically, 58 yards because 30 some odd yards came on that final [first half] drive."

Oh, and then came the words for Ron Rivera and the coaching staff... woof.

Where did quarterback Sam Howell, who threw for 71 yards in the first half (35 of which came on a garbage time final drive) and 317 in the second half, land? Well, he did not make either Sheehan's good list or bad list. But you can hear the full list and Sheehan's evaluation of the second-year passer's after the game take on the audio player above.
