It is now more than a possibility that Josh Harris will own the Commanders by the time training camp opens – it’s a probability.
A report by Nicki Jhabvala and Mark Maske in Friday’s Washington Post reveals that the NFL has scheduled a special owners’ meeting for July 20, where it is expected they will vote to ratify the $6.05 billion sale of the Commanders from Daniel Snyder to Josh Harris’ group.
The WaPo report says the league sent a memo to team owners late Thursday notifying them of the meeting, setting the earlier of two dates – July 20 and August 8 – the NFL had given owners as potential special meeting dates after Harris and Mitchell Rales met with the NFL Finance Committee earlier this month.
The Finance Committee met last week and is set to recommend approval of the deal, according to the report, with WaPo citing a source close to the situation as saying “everything is on track.”
The deal must be ratified by 24 of 32 NFL owners to pass, although there is usually little resistance to transactions approved by the committee.
Commanders training camp starts July 26 in Ashburn, and the source cited in the report told WaPo that “the sooner the Harris group can get in control, the better,” and that they would expect “unanimous approval.”
