Lou is one of Kevin Sheehan’s favorite callers, and when he called in on Wednesday, Lou had an interesting take on the Commanders’ QB situation: Ron Rivera’s idea of “this season being about Sam Howell’s development” was just another lie, and he put Sam Howell in a situation where he couldn’t succeed.
But Kevin has a fundamental difference there: he thinks, nay, knows, Eric Bieniemy has been calling the shots offensively ‘from the jump,’ so it can’t be Ron Rivera’s fault that Howell regressed – EB has to take some blame, too.
“If Ron cares about winning and cares about his job, what they should have done in the off season was address the O-Line,” Lou said. “That was the issue, but they decided not to; they went with a DB for his buddy.”
Sheehan agrees in as much as the line could have had better upgrades made, but in reality, even with a better line, the offense still had issues – and they start with Bieniemy and Howell.
“You want to blame Sam Howell's production, or lack thereof this year, on Rivera, when Eric Bieniemy had total autonomy over the offense?” Sheehan said. “Everything that happened offensively this year was Eric Bieniemy's call from the jump.”
You GOTTA take a listen to this call, where the normally civil and simpatico Kevin and Lou GET INTO IT about this issue!
