Should we be concerned about the state of the Commanders sale? Why Craig Hoffman says no

The agreement made by the group led by Josh Harris to buy the Washington Commanders from Dan Snyder was reportedly finalized close to three weeks ago, but the deal is still not final and other bidders could still enter the fray in an attempt to steal the deal.

And while the agreement remains unsigned and has not yet been formally submitted to the NFL to begin its approval process, the league has begun to take a look at the agreement. And, according to reports in the Washington Post, the NFL has found some minor issues with the deal and the "small holes" that need to be addressed before it can be finalized.

Craig Hoffman asks, should fans be concerned that the deal has turned up some minor issues? "And I, after reading [the Post's reporting] and sending a few texts, said no," Hoffman said Wednesday. But there is more to it than just that.

As previously reported, there are these holes in the financing among the group that would put the group's financing above the league's allowable debt limit that must be fixed.

For Hoffman, fixing these holes will be no problem and fans should not worry at all about them holding up any deal between the Harris group and Snyder.

But, the Post reported on Tuesday that the NFL is engaged in conversations with representatives of Snyder and that it appears likely the next step in the process "will be a conditional approval that is atypical in such transactions." And that next step could come as soon as this month.

There is potential for the transaction to go in phases, and the "timing of a ratification process arriving in such stages is fluid," the Post reported and is contingent on the pace of discussions between the league and Snyder's representatives.

For Hoffman, all of this reads like "the NFL putting pressure on Dan to get his act together and get to the negotiating table and figure this out."

Of course, Snyder may be incentiviesed to not rush and hope the league and the Harris group agrees to any demands that he may have that could be slowing down the final sale agreement.

Bottom line, Hoffman added, this sale may end up taking longer than some had thought, but the state of it is not in peril, even if the saga is far from over.
