The Commanders’ season ended with a thud, a 38-10 loss in a game where they led the Cowboys 10-7, but there was one bright spot: Terry McLaurin got his franchise record.
On his final catch of the game, with under a minute left, McLaurin caught a 15-yard pass from Sam Howell to get to 1,002 yards, his fourth straight season with 1,000 or more – the longest streak in team history.
McLaurin needed 54 yards to reach 1,000, and had 37 at halftime – but he had just two catches for four yards on the Commanders’ three full drives in the second half. Washington got the ball back with just over a minute left, and Howell tossed a wide receiver screen to McLaurin, who did the rest, scampering 15 yards to get to 1,000.
He finished with six catches for 56 yards on eight targets, giving him a 79-1,002-4 line on 132 targets. He had 77 grabs for 1,191 yards on 120 targets last season with five TD, so his catch and target totals increased despite the downtick in yardage and touchdowns.
McLaurin has played 66 of 67 regular-season games during the four years of the streak. He played in just 14 as a rookie and narrowly missed 1K, nabbing 58 catches on 93 targets for 919 yards, but did have a career-high seven touchdowns.
