In Pro Football Focus' Trevor Sikkema's mock draft, he has the Washington Commanders making not one, but two trades in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft! How about that for some fireworks come April 25? That would certainly be met with calm and not widespread panic.
Sikkema's plan has Adam Peters being busy: Trading the No. 2 pick to the Denver Broncos for No. 12 (and additional picks) before trading up to No. 10 with the New York Jets to select... Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
"I think Washington's going to be open to absolutely everything," Sikkema told Hoffman, adding that with the entirely new regime in place, there is going to be a "willingness to do whatever they think they need to do... to set themselves up for the future. Now, of course, I probably think that includes taking a quarterback."
That includes, in his mind, Washington making a call to the Chicago Bears to see if they want to trade down from the No. 1 pick to allow the Commanders to take Caleb Williams, which would mean a conversation about price. And that means the Commanders might also be willing to move down as far as outside of the Top 10 picks.
"This regime is going to explore every option," he said.
So what kind of quarterback would Washingon be getting from the Michigan man? Listen to the full conversation from the Hoffman Show on the audio player above to find out why Sikkema liked McCarthy a lot more in his film review than he first thought he would, even though he is QB 4 on his big board entering the 2024 draft.
