I'm Keeping a COVID-19 Journal

Journal

This is going to sound kinda weird, but I've started a coronavirus journal.

When I writing, I didn't mean for it to be about the virus. When my daughter was born, I started a journal to document how she was growing up. I write notes telling her about the new things she is doing, what's going on in her mom and dad, and basically what's happening in the world around her.

I didn't expect there to be a massive outbreak and pandemic.

I wasn't sure I wanted to mention it because Lilly won't remember this particular moment in history, so why burden her with the details? But then the more I thought about the more I realized that this is a huge moment in our history. Lilly might even study this in history class one day.

What better way to learn about history than to have written documentation about it?

The journal has become an update of what's going on. I'm telling her about the virus and how we've never seen anything like this and how it's affected the entire world. I tell her that her dad and I are considered essential workers so we have to go to work every day and how it scares us because we don't want to bring anything home to her. We told her about the toilet paper shortage, that people need to stand 6-ft apart from each other. I also wrote down how she loves to wave at her neighbors as we talk across the street to each other.

It's a very weird experience putting this down on paper, but I hope that one day she will read it and get an idea of what life was like when she was a baby.

I also hope that our current situation doesn't become a permanent reality.

Have you started a pandemic journal? What else should I include in it? Let me know in the Facebook comments.
