St. Patrick’s day is just around the corner and little did we know, it’s a holiday Tim McGraw is always ready to celebrate with his lucky leprechaun tattoo.
LISTEN NOW: Tim McGraw shares the story behind his leprechaun tattoo and his love for St. Patrick’s Day
According to Tim, he and his brothers got matching leprechaun tattoos while on a trip in New Orleans together years ago. While he admits they were in a NOLA state of mind when they got the ink, it’s actually a tattoo that has a lot of sentiment behind it.
“I have a leprechaun [tattoo] that I got years and years ago in New Orleans… It wasn’t Mardi Gras, but it was a situation,” he laughed, telling Audacy’s Rob + Holly about the ink.
“I like it. My brothers both have one too because my Dad liked leprechauns. He had a leprechaun necklace he wore, so that’s why I got it. That’s why my brothers have it as well. Mine has the black cowboy hat on him.”
Tim continued on to share some core memories of his late father, Tug McGraw, who made a point to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day even while pitching on the mound as a professional baseball player.
“My Dad loved St. Patricks’ Day,” Tim shared. “During Spring Training when St. Patrick’s Day would roll around and he’d go out on the mound to pitch, he’d wear a green uniform. I still have his green Phillies uniform that he wore on St. Patrick’s Day. He loved it.”
