This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash spoke with Danita Terry, Director of Marketing & Communications with Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, (GSCM), about what's happening with the Girl Scouts who are celebrating 60 Years! GSCM turned 60 years old on October 1, 2022. Danita also talked about GSCM's Mental Health Mondays initiative, exciting renovations to their Camp Woodlands located in Annapolis and yes, it's Cookie Time in Central Maryland!
Camp Woodlands will be undergoing some major renovations and upgrades to become a modern camping location with opportunities to also enjoy water activities and environmental studies for local Girl Scout and community members. The first round of improvements are slated to begin in 2023.
For the past two years, GSCM has been partnering with the Say It Brave Collective to find ways to combat issues connected with mental health through their Mental Health Mondays initiative. Girls who have experience with mental health issues and girls interested in being mental health advocates can join informative Zoom sessions with expert trained speakers on the 3rd Monday of every month. More info can be found on gscm.org on the event page.
GSCM's annual cookie sale began on October 1st. At this time Girl Scouts are taking orders for cookies that will be shipped to the council in November. Booth sales where customers can buy cookies directly from the girls, open November 4th. The cookie sale allows girls to gain business skills like money management, customer relations, team work, etc. Cookie customers can find cookie booth locations to purchase cookies on the GSCM website at gscm.org towards the end of October, first week of November.
