This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Greater Baltimore Urban League, (GBUL), COO Tershea "Shea" Rice and Greater Baltimore Leadership Association, (GBLA), President Coby Smith to talk about their Centennial Gala Saturday, November 9th at the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor celebrating a Century of Impact and a Future of Promise. GBUL is one of the local affiliates of the National Urban League, a nonprofit, nonpartisan, multi-ethnic, social service organization. The GBUL movement was founded in 1924.

Shea talked about GBUL's latest achievements in Workforce Development with their Community Trade Apprenticeship Program, (CTAP-Construction), that graduated with a 95% completion rate-the highest in Project Jump Start's 18-year history! She also shared Youth and Programs updates including a successful Back to School Drive that distributed over 300 backpacks along with flu vaccines, free haircuts and hygiene kits. GBUL's signature Saturday Leadership Program for students in Grades 8-12 started September 14th with orientation and a tour of Morgan State University. Students volunteered at the Baltimore County African American Festival in Towson and visited the Walters Art Museum and the Maryland Center for History and Culture.


Coby Smith highlighted the work of GBLA that is made up GBUL's Young Professionals aged 21-40, that engages the youth in the community and helps support GBUL's mission. GBLA hosted their biggest fundraiser, a Boat Party on Saturday, August 17th as well as a Presidential Debate Watch Party on September 10th. (They're hosting a VP Debate Watch Party on October 1st at the Hamilton Sports Bar & Grill). GBLA is also hosting upcoming Co-Work With Us events at R. House in Baltimore on October 25th, November 25th and December 12th.
