Port Discovery's Community Birthday Bash is Coming Up Sunday, June 2nd Celebrating 25 Years!

This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Port Discovery Children's Museum CEO/President Carter Polakoff, and VP of Learning, Visitor Experience & Community Engagement, Rachel Demma, to talk about their Community Birthday Bash coming up Sunday, June 2nd to give thanks to the community for its 25 years of support! Carter shared how Port Discovery has evolved over the last 25 years to better meet the needs of the community and about the recent $17.5 million dollar investment to enhance Port Discovery including a 5-year museum renovation plan and the Early Learning Institute. Rachel talked about some of the programs Port Discovery offers beyond the exhibits including Discounted Admission Programs, Sensory Friendly Sunday and Access & Inclusion Afternoons.

Carter also talked about how Port Discovery was featured in a New York Times article about How Museums are Growing Intellectually and Emotionally. The article highlights the museum's Ted-Dy Talks, a collaboration with the University of Maryland School of Social Work's Institute for Innovation and Implementation, a division that focuses on early childhood mental health.
