Controversy has prompted an elected official in Greenwood County to resign from his position. County Council Chairman Theo Lane has announced he is stepping down from his position
. Lane announced his resignation Monday, but says he will remain on the County Council to represent his district in the meantime. The announcement comes after Lane made controversial statements, words that he described as "incendiary".
Lane says he made those remarks after he was harassed for a six month period. He claims the harassment included death threats and people sounding horns outside of his home
. Lane has served on the Greenwood County Council for a decade. The Council will elect an interim Chairman and its meeting next week. Then will elect a Chairman and Vice Chairman for a new two year term in January.
