An investigation is ongoing after two inmates from the same jail in North Georgia died last week. Two inmates from the Elbert County Detention Center died with days of each other in separate incidents. Neither of the inmates have been publicly identified, at the time. The 1st incident happened when detention officers found an inmate unresponsive in his cell, June 1st.
Officials say the inmate has medical issues and suffered from a medical episode. He was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to another hospital, where he died last Tuesday. Then last Thursday officers called 911 after another inmate was found on the floor unresponsive.
The inmate was taken to Elbert Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Georgia Bureau Of Investigation has been called into lead the death investigations.
