After two years, Rogers was finally laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, GA with a private gathering of family and friends on hand to pay their respects. The congregation hosted by Rogers' long-time touring partners Linda Davis and Billy Dean, featured over a dozen speakers, as well as the Dr. T. Lynn Smith and Friends gospel choir providing a musical respite. The ceremony was also highlighted by a prerecorded vocal performance from Rogers, and a traditional Irish sendoff by Brigadier General (Ret.) Richard McPhee.
Adding to the special honors, a new video for the Country Music Hall of Famer's single "Goodbye," penned by Lionel Richie, was shown during a reception that followed Kenny's service. The track, one of three previously unreleased songs that appeared on 2009's Kenny Rogers: The First 50 Years, is one of Rogers' final recordings for Capitol Records and was resurfaced just days after his passing in 2020.
For fans who wish to pay their respects, the Rogers family has extended an open invitation to visit Kenny’s final resting place at Oakland Cemetery, located at 248 Oakland Ave, SE in Atlanta, GA. Please find additional details and visiting hours here.
One of the biggest stars of the stage and screen since the late-'50s, Kenny was also a steamy heartthrob, and his amazing love songs certainly had a lot to do with the animal attraction. Check out some of the best lyrics from 80s Country love songs right here.
