(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Illinois Congressman Sean Casten announced Monday the death of his 17-year-old daughter.
“This morning, Congressman Casten’s beloved daughter, Gwen (17), passed away. The Casten family requests privacy, and we will be issuing no further comment during this heartbreaking time,” Casten’s office said in a statement.
The Downers Grove Democrat has served in the U.S. House since 2019 and is currently running for a third term in the newly drawn 6th District. The upcoming June primary against fellow incumbent Rep. Marie Newman, and challenger Charles Hughes, is expected to be a competitive race.
"My heart breaks for the Casten family for the devastating loss of their daughter. My prayers are with Sean, Kara, and the entire Casten family," Newman said in a statement.
Newman also said that her campaign has immediately pulled any negative ads against Casten from airing.
Gwen Casten is survived by a sister.
