CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two CPD officers have been stripped of police powers and are now the subjects of internal investigations.

One officer, identified as 32-year-old Jonathan Mehrhoff, is alleged to have been off-duty on Sunday evening when on-duty officers saw him run red lights on the West Side. There was a pursuit, during which Mehrhoff, driving his personal car, reportedly stopped and then sped away a couple times before ultimately being arrested.

He’s been a CPD officer for four years and was previously involved in a similar incident. He’s charged with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and reckless driving.

The second officer stripped of police powers earlier on the same day is identified as 34-year-old Luis Cruz, on the force for six years. The circumstances of his arrest are unclear. He’s charged with battery.

There are internal investigations involving both officers.
