CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Chicago Park District is already looking for lifeguards for next summer.

Earlier than ever before, swimmers can apply to become a Chicago lifeguard during next year's summer season, which runs as early as May 2024 through September.

New this year, candidates can register for a skills test as part of their application and complete that during winter break.

They can also participate in a newly revitalized and stipend-based training program starting in January.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old by July 1.

The strengthened hiring campaign comes after previous issues with staffing that forced the park district to open less pools and later than usual.

The application is available here.
