(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Three people were killed after the car they were in collided with a CSX freight train Wednesday afternoon in suburban Harvey.
It happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. when the vehicle bypassed lowered crossing gates at Park Avenue and crashed into the side of a CSX train, according to an official with CSX, a North American rail-freight company.
All three passengers in the vehicle died from their injuries.
No one aboard the train was injured.
Austin Staton, with CSX, said the company “extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragedy” and pledged to support local law enforcement as they investigate the crash.
