Chicagoans are getting ready for a heat wave.
Accuweather Meteorologist John Feerick told WBBM that the next few days will probably be “the hottest stretch we've seen in a couple of years."
The high could be 90 degrees on Monday. On Tuesday, Chicago could heat up toward the record of 99 degrees set in 1987.
Wednesday's high could be 97 degrees, which would break the record of 95 degrees last reached in 1994.
“People need to be prepared,” Feerick said. “They need to stay hydrated, stay in the shade if they do need to be outdoors … obviously, stay in the air conditioning if they can."
The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications told WBBM it will be sending out information for residents regarding the heat on Monday.
In the meantime, an OEMC spokesperson said the department is monitoring weather conditions with the National Weather Service in Chicago. They encourage residents to stay hydrated and cool as much as possible.
City officials also said it is important to check on relatives, neighbors, and our vulnerable populations.
Officials added that if you are unable to make contact, you can request a well-being check by downloading the CHI311 app, visiting 311.chicago.gov, or calling 3-1-1.
