
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A new player could enter the Chicago grocery store market.
The merger between grocery giants Albertsons and Kroger is close to complete.
Albertsons is the parent company of Jewel- Osco and Kroger owner Mariano's and Food For Less stores in the Chicago area.
Reuters reports the $24.5 billion merger agreement calls for the combined company to sell more than 400 grocery stores to C&S Wholesale Grocers for nearly $2 billion.
C&S is the parent company of Piggly Wiggly, which has dozens of locations across Wisconsin.
The deal still requires regulatory approval.
