CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It seems like every week there’s another challenger to Mayor Lori Lightfoot entering the mayoral race, but a big name considering a run says he will not.

He’s been circulating petitions and voted against Mayor Lightfoot’s budget proposal just this week, but the Chicago Tribune reports Alderman Tom Tunney is NOT running for mayor.

The City Council’s first openly gay alderman announced this summer he’s retiring after representing Wrigleyville and the 44th ward for 20 years- fueling speculation about a mayoral bid. The Tribune doesn’t say what led Tunney to the decision.

He backed Lightfoot in the mayoral runoff four years ago. There are nine people challenging her - including three aldermen.
