(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Nearly a week after a teenage boy was shot and killed outside of Senn High School, a number of community groups gathered to offer their support to those struggling with the tragedy.
"Right now, we need the time.
We need the time to grieve," said 48th Ward Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, who helped organize the victims' advocate session.
The private gathering included professionals, police and therapy dogs.
It was all in response to last week's deadly shooting near Senn High School that left 16-year-old Daveon Gibson dead, and two other teenage boys wounded.
"I know people are hurting. It's also a time to open eyes and look up to see the people who are truly sitting right next to you and care for you," Manaa-Hoppenworth said.
Other events this week are planned, including a public safety meeting for residents who have expressed concerns following the shooting.
