CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The CTA starts a new construction project Sunday on the Blue Line and hopes to keep riders around by offering free and reduced fares.
The CTA plans to rebuild the CTA Blue Line Branch between LaSalle Street and the Illinois Medical District. Starting Sunday at 3 a.m., the CTA will not run any Blue Line trains between those two stops. As an incentive to keep commuters using the CTA, the transit system is offering free bus rides on all north-south routes to Green and Pink Line stations between Ashland and Austin.
The CTA will offer reduced fares for rail users who use Ventra cards boarding at Lake and Ashland and all stations west on the Green and Pink lines as well as those boarding the Forest Park Blue Line Branch at the Illinois Medical District and all stations west of there.
The discounts will run through early October.
