CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new survey is out on American workers’ attitudes about taking sick days off from work.
The poll found that 58% of workers avoid calling in sick because they’re afraid of being punished and two-thirds believe their bosses don’t believe them when they say they’re sick.
Alice, an IT project manager who preferred to only use her first name, said she finds it tough to take off sick because she still has to get her work done. So recently, when she had a migraine, she took a half-day off.
“I wrote my teams and I said, ‘I’m going into my own little morgue for the morning. I’m taking some medication and I will be back on line this afternoon,’” Alice told WBBM Newsradio.
The survey done for Theraflu found that nearly 70% of Americans who work from home feel obligated to work when sick because of expectations created during the COVID-19 pandemic.
