CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A derailed freight train has caused Amtrak to cancel multiple local train trips today.

Amtrak made the announcement shortly after 5:45 a.m., saying a freight train derailed east of Chicago, and is blocking several routes.

The affected lines, operating out of Chicago’s Union Station, are all for trains destined for Michigan. Today’s Wolverine train to Pontiac, the Blue Water train to Port Huron and the Pere Marquette to Grand Rapids have all been canceled.

Amtrak said it's attempting to secure alternate bus transportation.
