CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An Amtrak train heading to Chicago derailed after hitting a vehicle on the tracks.

Amtrak said the train was traveling from Pontiac, Michigan when, just after 10 p.m.,  it hit a truck on the tracks near New Buffalo, Michigan.

It was carrying around 200 people at the time of the crash and only minor injuries were reported.

Amtrak said the train derailed but remained upright.

The truck burst into flames after the collision. No one was in the truck at the time, and it's not immediately clear why the truck was on the tracks.

Arrangements were made for a temporary shelter to be constructed at New Buffalo High School for the passengers.
