(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An Andersonville shop owner may be shopping for a new space after an abrupt email from her building’s management company.
“It really sucks.”
WBBM introduced you to Fad2Fresh at 5653 North Ashland on a recent edition of Made in Chicago. Owner Alex Jones opened the popular vintage shop in 2022 and since then, it’s been called an Andersonville staple.
But now, Jones says the owner of her building has told her to be gone by the end of June.
“They’re telling me I have to leave. They won’t talk to the chamber about it, they won’t respond to emails. It makes me feel like I did something wrong.”
As a Black, woman and queer owned business, Jones says the possibility of leaving for good stings.
“It’s really sad. I worked really hard and tried to treat everyone with grace and care and show love to people who sometimes don’t get shown love because of who they are.”
She vows to keep fighting and if necessary, find a new space in Chicago. Building management has chosen not to comment.
