(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Justin Field enthusiasts, stand down.
Andy Dalton is still the frontrunner for starting Chicago Bears quarterback in the regular season, game analyst Tom Thayer tells play-by-play announcer Jeff Joniak.
“He has a better understanding of the offense, and then everything else at the line of scrimmage,” he said. “That’s where Justin has to come up to speed. We saw some of the hits that he took on the line of scrimmage by blitzers, and it’s concerning to me.
“Because that is one of the obstacles that quarterbacks have to be responsible for. Make sure they understand their protection, where the vulnerabilities can come from, and if they’re in harm’s way.”
Adds Joniak: “And teams will continue to do it until he identifies that.”
The Bears will face the Tennessee Titans in Nashville at 6 p.m. in their preseason finale. Pregame coverage will begin at 5 p.m. on WBBM Newsradio.
