The Cubs may have lost on the field and had their season end this week, but they won in federal court.

A federal judge has ruled that a building owner across Waveland Avenue from Wrigley Field may not sell tickets to see the game from the rooftop of his building.

Wrigley View Rooftop had a deal with the Cubs for 20 years, from 2004 to 2024, in which the business would give the Cubs a percentage of its ticket sales revenue.

But in 2024, that stopped and the Cubs sued.

Federal Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman ruled that the business continued to sell tickets to see Cubs games without giving any money to the Cubs, in effect, unfairly capitalizing on another’s labor.

The Cubs say they’re pleased with the decision. The building owner has not said whether he plans to appeal. His other options would be to make a new revenue-sharing deal with the Cubs or stop selling tickets altogether for people to view Cubs games from his rooftop.
