CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Staff at another Chicago cultural institution have announced plans to unionize. Workers at the Museum of Science and Industry are the latest to do so.

They’re calling themselves the Museum of Science & Industry Workers United and want to be represented by Council 31 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

An open letter signed by more than 50 employees identified pay increases, professional development and more health and safety protocols as areas they want to see improved. The bargaining unit would cover roughly 140 employees in the education, guest services and guest experience departments.

Last month, workers at the Field Museum approved a union contract while those at the Peggy Notebaert Museum filed for an election.
