At least 2 hospitalized after fire at North Side apartment building

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago firefighters made several rescues during an apartment building fire on the North Side Friday morning.

The rescues happened during a 2-11 alarm fire that was reported about 8:15 a.m. in the 10-hundred block of West Foster in the Edgewater Beach neighborhood.

Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said firefighters made their way inside the building and into the unit where the fire was and quickly doused it.

"Crews got on the scene and found heavy fire coming out of the 6th floor, so it immediately went to a still-and-box and then to a 2-11 alarm with reports that some people couldn’t get out of their apartments," he said.

Langford also said one person appeared to be threatening to jump from one window, but fire crews got a ladder up and rescued him. At least two people were transported to hospitals, according to the fire department.
