CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Today marks a nasty milestone in Chicago’s history and an incident that has forever linked the city to the Dave Matthews Band.

It’s been 20 years since a group aboard a sightseeing boat on the Chicago River got an unpleasant surprise, courtesy of the Dave Matthews Band.

What "crashed" into the more than 100 people was human waste from the band’s tour bus that emptied its septic tank over the river from the Kinzie Street Bridge.

The driver, Stefan Wohl, would go on to plead guilty to charges of reckless conduct and discharging contaminants to cause water pollution.

The band also later donated $50,000 to Friends of the Chicago River.

While the mess has long faded, the memory has not.

That’s highlighted by tonight’s event at Hideout Chicago: “Don’t Drink the Water.” The dance party is sold out.
