CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two independently-owned cannabis dispensaries in Chicago reportedly are going to be sold to a big company that owns dispensaries in a number of states.
Ayr Wellness is based in Florida and, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, has a deal with locally-owned Dispensary 33 to buy its two pot shops in Uptown and West Loop.
Dispensary 33 in Uptown was Chicago’s first medical cannabis dispensary and also made the city’s first recreational pot sale at the beginning of this year.
The deal is reportedly worth $55 million, including $40 million in stock and $12 million in cash.
The owner told the Sun-Times he and his team will continue running the stores for six months after the deal closes. He also said he previously passed up offers from several cannabis companies, choosing the best fit not necessarily the highest price.
