CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A $5,000 reward has been offered for information about the driver of a black Chrysler 300 who crashed into a car and killed a 1-year-old girl on the Near West Side early Thursday.
Chicago police said the baby was in a black Toyota sedan that was double-parked in the 300 block of South Western Avenue. Shortly after midnight Thursday, a black Chrysler 300 driving northbound rammed into the back of the Toyota.
The Chrysler didn’t stop, and according to police, it hit a few other parked cars before its driver abandoned it and ran.
The 1-year-old girl, inside the Toyota, was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identifies her as Jamyah Harris.
Two women also in the Toyota, 23 and 18, refused treatment.
Early Walker, owner of W&W Towing, said he was offering a $5,000 cash reward for the arrest and conviction of the driver.
“This should be on every Chicagoan’s radar to assist with this investigation,” Walker said in a statement. “I’m hopeful that with the reward money, phones will begin to ring within the offices of the Chicago Police Department.”
Walker and Jamyah’s family were expected to speak publicly about the crash and investigation Thursday afternoon.
