A different kind of Amazon store is coming to Oak Brook after village leaders approved some changes.

The world’s largest online retailer plans to build a 225,000-square-foot combination store and delivery center on 27 acres near I-88 at Butterfield and Meyers Road.

Trustees approved zoning changes 4-0 at their meeting Tuesday night.

The supercenter is about the same size as one approved in Orland Park earlier this year, which the south suburb says is the first of its kind.

Oak Brook trustees also approved a ban on through traffic in the nearby Ginger Creek neighborhood after residents raised concerns.

Village President Laurence Herman says the ordinance will enable police to act if needed and to notify navigation apps not to direct drivers to those streets.

Amazon plans to start demolition as soon as October and finish construction in late 2028.
