(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- GOP candidate for governor Darren Bailey is getting campaign help from a former Democratic Presidential hopeful, but the event is drawing fire from incumber Gov. JB Pritzker’s supporters.

In one of his almost daily Facebook videos, Bailey said he was looking forward to campaigning with former Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard in the Western suburbs.

He praises her as a decorated military hero who left what he calls the party of “destruction.” She is now campaigning for conservative Republicans.

In a radio interview, Gabbard said her message to Illinois voters is that Bailey is a man of the people.

But a spokeswoman for Democrat Pritzker’s campaign calls Gabbard an apologist for Vladimir Putin, given  her statements in support of his rationale for invading Ukraine.

And the Pritzker campaign says she’s virulently anti-LGBTQ, with no real values or moral compass.
