(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Barnes & Noble will open a book store at a historic building in Wicker Park, plus three other locations in the Chicago market later this year.
A Barnes & Noble official confirmed the chain will occupy at least a portion of the ornate building at 1601 N. Milwaukee Avenue, a onetime bank. The site was most recently a flagship store for Walgreens before the drugstore chain closed it early in 2023.
The other new Barnes & Noble Chicago location will be in Lincoln Park, at 651 W. Diversey. In addition, the chain will open three more stores in the area, one each in Northbrook, Oswego, and Schererville, Indiana.
Barnes & Noble has both closed book stores and opened new locations in Chicago and the outlying region in recent memory.
Early this year, the Barnes & Noble in Naperville closed, as did the location on Clybourn Avenue on Chicago’s North Side last year. In November 2022, the chain opened a store at Old Orchard Mall in Skokie, where it had closed a store previously.
The new Wicker Park book store will open in early summer, Crain’s reported.
