Barrington community in shock over Metra accident that killed teen

BARRINGTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Counselors are being made available to Barrington High School students after a 17-year-old girl was hit and killed by a Metra train Thursday. Some are wondering if it could have been prevented.

Marin Lacson was on her way to school.  The rail crossing gates were down at Hough and Main Streets.  Lights and bells were activated.  There were trains going in opposite directions, and it was foggy.

Witnesses said she started crossing when one passed, and she was hit by the second train.

“This town is gonna be rocked by this, Megan Morris, the mother of Lascon’s friend told said.

She spoke to CBS-2.

“This is a tragedy for our family and for so many people, and it could have been prevented. It’s [an] unnecessary tragedy.”

A statement from the school district said counselors will continue to be on hand for any student needing support.
