
BARTLETT (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A GoFundMe page has been set up for a family whose teenage sons were involved in a deadly accident in northwest suburban Bartlett this week.
Bartlett police said a 16-year-old boy was killed and three other teens injured Tuesday night in Bartlett.
Bartlett police were called around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday night to a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle. According to police, a 16-year-old boy was driving a 2021 Honda Civic westbound on Devon Avenue from Newport Boulevard when his vehicle struck a curb, a speed limit sign, and then a utility pole before it rolled over on its roof.
The driver and three occupants needed to be extricated from the vehicle. A 16-year-old boy, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, died at the scene as a result of the injuries he sustained from the motor vehicle crash.
According to Bartlett police, the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Another 16-year-old boy, who was sitting in the rear passenger seat, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. And another 16-year-old boy, who was sitting in the rear passenger seat, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates.
The Bartlett Raiders youth football program identified two of the victims as twin brothers Alex and Adrian Czerwik, both players on the Bartlett High School Hawks football team.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Alex as the one who died.
According to the Bartlett Raiders youth football program Facebook page, just two hours before the crash, the brothers had been helping to coach the 9-and-under football team.
"This is hitting very close to home for our Bartlett Raiders family both current and former players and cheerleaders as well as current and former coaches of our organization," the post read. "These boys were current members of the Bartlett Hawks high school football program and had been working hard at camp this summer to prepare for this upcoming season!"
Police said following the crash, Devon Avenue was closed between Newport Boulevard and Prospect Avenue for about six hours for an investigation. ComEd was contacted and shut down electrical power to the utility pole that was struck by the vehicle. ComEd restored power to the residences near the crash scene at approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
