ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Chicago Bears claim they're still charging downfield with plans for a domed lakefront stadium, but their sideline action in Arlington Heights suggests they want to know their options.
The Bears had stopped working on plans for the 326-acre former Arlington Park racetrack because of a two-year disagreement about taxes with local schools.
Now that they've come to a settlement, multiple reports say the team is restarting its traffic and economic impact studies, with Arlington Height officials saying they expect to have the reports in-hand within the coming days.
They will then hand it off to independent consultants for review. These are critical steps if the Arlington Heights development were to move forward.
Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes expressed encouragement about the renewed progress, though the Bears President Kevin Warren said the team is maintaining its focus on a proposed $3.2 billion domed stadium along Chicago's lakefront.
