CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- President Biden will be visiting the Chicago area Wednesday afternoon, spending time in McHenry County.
This will be President Biden’s first visit to Illinois since he was sworn in. He’s expected to arrive in Chicago a little before noon and then head up to Crystal Lake, where he will be checking out the workforce development plan and child care center at McHenry County College. He’ll be in the congressional district of Democratic Representative Lauren Underwood, who narrowly won reelection last year.
"I would see this as less of a political trip, more of an opportunity to speak to all Americans about why his Build Back Better agenda and why his effort to extend the Child Tax Credit, to make community college more affordable, to make universal pre-K a reality is something that many people of all political stripes should be able to support," said Biden's Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
Psaki said part of the reason the president is choosing to visit to the northwest suburbs is to show he’s president for Democrats, Republicans and independents.
Before arriving in Crystal Lake, Biden is expected to be greeted at O’Hare International Airport by Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot; although it is unknown how long they will meet for.
Additionally, Governor JB Pritzker said Tuesday he would attend Biden’s event in Crystal Lake, along with a number of other elected Democrats, including U.S. Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi of Schaumburg and Sean Casten of Downers Grove.
President Biden won Crystal Lake in 2020, but lost McHenry County by a slim margin.
