(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Its been more than 6 months since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade and in Illinois, abortion clinics continue to be flooded with out of state patients looking for care.
Planned Parenthood of Illinois is used to seeing patients from other states, but since the June decision to retract federal abortion protections, those numbers have increased substantially.
"Before that point, we had about 100 patients scheduling per month who were coming to us from other states," said Planned Parenthood of Illinois President and CEO Jennifer Welch. "Now we have about 750 out-of-state patients."
She said almost a third of the agency’s patients are now from out of state, as opposed to about 6% prior to the overturning of Roe. Welch said there's also been an increase in the need for care for transgender patients.
Planned Parenthood has 17 health centers across the state.
