BLOOMINGDALE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago Pastry in Bloomingdale is working tirelessly to prepare thousands of pastries for Fat Tuesday, also known as Paczki Day.

“Not only the donuts themselves, but the fillings that go inside the donuts, so it's a big part of our production to get ready for tomorrow,” said owner Peter Turano.

For those unfamiliar with paczkis, they’re basically deep-fried dough spheres.

Turano describes them as a soft yeast donut that’s stuffed with filling and can be similarly compared to a Bismark.

“This year we're doing apple, apricot, blueberry cheesecake, cherry, custard, lemon. We do a Nutella French cream, a raspberry, a strawberry French cream, and then our signature cannoli cream,” Turano added.

Fat Tuesday is considered one of the busiest days of the year for Chicago-area bakeries.

Turano tells WBBM that orders have steadily been coming into Chicago Pastry the last couple of weeks, but for those that are looking for a last-minute treat, fear not.

“There is gonna be a lot. So, if you can't place an order and if you come in, we should have everything you need,” Turano said.

Chicago Pastry is located at 142 N. Bloomingdale Road and is open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
