Bolingbrook police said Saturday's deadly shooting at a WeatherTech warehouse in Bolingbrook was over a robbery by a temporary worker.
The gunman, who’s from Chicago’s Fernwood neighborhood, is in custody.
Bolingbrook police said they arrested Charles McKnight Jr. at a home near the WeatherTech facility about three hours after they got the call about the shooting.
Authorities said they found a handgun as well as a watch and wallet on the 27-year-old belonging to coworkers.
Resident Trina McCain told CBS2 she never thought something like this would happen in her quiet neighborhood.
“[It’s] scary, it’s a reality check because I tell my kids all the time, ‘Don’t go here, don’t do this,’” McCain said. “Never thought it would be that close to my backyard.”
Police said 37-year-old Central Hightower of Plainfield died while a 25-year-old man is in critical condition and a third employee — a 43-year-old man — was treated and released.
Officials said the shooting does not appear to be premeditated but happened when employees confronted McKnight after he allegedly robbed two co-workers at gunpoint.
The incident is still under investigation, Bolingbrook police said.
