HINSDALE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Chicago man, charged by prosecutors with stealing items from a Hinsdale Walgreens, will remain in custody as he awaits trial.

A DuPage County judge said David Freeman of Chicago's South Side must remain in custody.

Hinsdale police accuse Freeman of stealing more than a thousand dollars worth of merchandise from the Walgreens at 15 Grant Square on July 19.

Investigators said Freeman was holding a small child, as the man stole antacids, laxatives, liquor, baby formula, baby supplies, razor blades, ice cream and dental items.

Police said when he was confronted by a store manager, Freeman got in a van, drove off, ran several stop signs and deliberately ran the van into two Hinsdale police vehicles.

Prosecutors said Freeman is charged with retail theft, burglary, fleeing from police and endangering a child.

Investigators said Freeman is also awaiting trial on a retail theft case in Indiana.
