CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The man picked by President-elect Trump to oversee border policy was on Chicago’s Northwest Side Monday night, and he provided a clear message to both Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson: Work with me or step aside.

Speaking to a rather raucous crowd inside a Portage Park banquet hall, Tom Homan did not mince words on immigration or local leadership.

“Get rid of the sanctuary city policies,” said Homan. “We’re going to sue sanctuary cities on the next administration…The position of your mayor and your governor is terrible…Come to the the table, come to the table, I welcome you to come to the table and help us protect your communities, but if you don’t get the hell out of the way.”

The former police officer, who served as acting director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for more than a year of the first Trump presidency, urged those in Illinois without documentation to leave on their own.

“If you’re in the country illegally, you come here illegally, you choose to have a child, that’s on you,” Homan added. “You can either take the child home with you or they can stay here. You don’t get a pass.

Homan also had a promise for Chicagoans.

“January 21, you’re going to look for a lot of ICE agents in your city, looking for criminals and gang members, count on it. It will happen,” said Homan.
