FRANKLIN PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A person of interest is in custody after a 9-year-old boy was fatally shot during a birthday party Saturday evening in suburban Franklin Park.

Nine-year-old Ulysses Campos was attending a celebration for his grandmother near Elder Lane and Grand Avenue.

While he was playing in an alley with other children, Franklin Park Police said a vehicle drove up and someone inside started shooting.

Franklin Park Police and the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force were able to track down the vehicle in unincorporated Leyden Township, and officials said a person of interest is in custody.

Anyone who witnessed the event or who could provide surveillance video of the incident is asked to contact the Franklin Park Police Department at 847-678-2444.
