Authorities in the western suburbs say a Chicago woman orchestrated a robbery-gone-wrong at Oakbrook Center Mall, resulting in her accomplice being killed.
29-year-old Chance Jamerson was charged with three counts of Attempt Armed Robbery. She was denied pre-trial release at Tuesday's court hearing.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin says Jamerson knew someone would be at the mall with $2,000, so she worked with 28-year-old Justin Hill to rob him.
"The defendant kept Hill apprised of their location," said Berlin. "Just before Hill approached the Mercedes, the defendant sent him a text, saying, 'block the car in and I'll help you get everything'."
A fight ensued, and Hill was shot and killed. Jamerson was also shot and injured.
Berlin says the driver who fired shots will not be charged.
"There's no question that Jamerson's actions set in motion the event that caused the death of Mr. Hill."
Jamerson’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 23.
