MUNDELEIN, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An 8-year-old boy who was taken from a family Christmas gathering near suburban Mundelein has been found safe.

Enrique Sanchez was taken by his mother, Holly Adcox, 27, while they were both attending a gathering about 8 p.m. Friday in the 26400 block of Route 83, the Lake County sheriff’s office said.

Investigators believe Adcox and the boy’s father, Federico Sanchez, 30, planned the abduction and fled with the child, the sheriff’s office said. Adcox does not have legal custody of the boy but was given permission to attend the party.

Police determined they were likely in the area of Sellersburg, Indiana and contacted local law enforcement, the sheriff’s office said. The three were found at a hotel after authorities found the Toyota Camry they were traveling in.

Enrique is being held in protective custody until his legal guardians arrive, the sheriff’s office said. The child has been in the legal guardianship of his grandmother since he was 1 year old.

Adcox and Federico Sanchez were arrested and are being held on kidnapping charges in Clark County, Indiana, the sheriff’s office said.
