(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police in Geneva say burglars smashed the storefronts of a dozen businesses early Wednesday -- all in 2-to-3-mile stretch of Randall Road.

Twelve windows or doors were smashed, either with bricks or a fire extinguisher, on Randall Road, north of Fabyan Parkway and south of Route 38.

All were hit sometime around 2 a.m.

"It does seem like they worked pretty fast, yes,” says Geneva Deputy Police Chief Brian Maduzia.

"Great Clips was one of them. Starbucks. New Balance shoe store. Jersey Mike's. A pizza place. Games Workshop. Nothing Bundt Cakes. Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Jimmy Johns are a majority of the businesses."

Deputy Chief Maduzia says the burglars may have been after tip jars in some of the businesses.

Police say a car that may have been involved in the smash and grabs got away from authorities.
